Indications
- Acute upper GI bleeding — peptic ulcer haemorrhage (IV bolus/infusion)
- Severe erosive oesophagitis and GORD when oral route is unavailable
- Stress ulcer prophylaxis in mechanically ventilated ICU patients
- Zollinger–Ellison syndrome requiring high-dose IV acid suppression
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to Pantoprazole or substituted benzimidazoles
- Co-administration with HIV medications where gastric pH affects absorption (e.g. rilpivirine)
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding — use only when benefit outweighs risk
Side effects
- Injection-site pain or thrombophlebitis with IV administration
- Headache, diarrhoea, and abdominal discomfort
- Hypomagnesaemia and Clostridium difficile infection risk with prolonged use
