Rx GastroenterologyIndications
- Gastro-oesophageal reflux disease, including erosive reflux oesophagitis, where oral therapy is not appropriate
- Duodenal ulcer and gastric ulcer
- Pathological hypersecretory states, including Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
- Short-term acid suppression in hospitalised patients who cannot take oral medicines
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to pantoprazole, to substituted benzimidazoles, or to any excipient
- Co-administration with atazanavir and certain other HIV protease inhibitors whose absorption depends on gastric acidity
- Use with caution in severe hepatic impairment
- Use in pregnancy or breastfeeding only where the physician judges it necessary
Side effects
- Headache and dizziness
- Diarrhoea, nausea, abdominal pain, flatulence or constipation
- Thrombophlebitis or a reaction at the infusion site
- With prolonged therapy, low blood magnesium, reduced vitamin B12 and an increased risk of enteric infection
