Indications
- Fever in children, including fever following immunisation
- Sore throat, tonsillitis and earache with an inflammatory component
- Teething and dental discomfort
- Sprains, strains and pain after minor childhood injury
- Aches and body pain during viral illness, where an NSAID is considered appropriate
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to ibuprofen, paracetamol, aspirin or any other NSAID
- Active or previous gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding, and bleeding disorders
- Dehydration, persistent vomiting, poor urine output, or significant kidney or liver impairment
- Suspected dengue or other illness with a bleeding or platelet risk, and children with NSAID-sensitive asthma
- Neonates and infants below the age judged appropriate by the prescriber
Side effects
- Nausea, vomiting, stomach pain or heartburn
- Loose stools or altered appetite
- Skin rash, itching and other hypersensitivity reactions
- Wheezing in children who are sensitive to NSAIDs
- Uncommonly, gastrointestinal bleeding or reduced kidney function, particularly in a dehydrated child

What is Ibumic-Plus used for in children?
It is a prescription paediatric suspension of ibuprofen and paracetamol used for fever and for pain with an inflammatory element, such as sore throat, earache, teething or discomfort after immunisation. A paediatrician decides whether it suits a particular child.
Why does Ibumic-Plus contain two medicines instead of one?
Paracetamol lowers fever by acting centrally, while ibuprofen additionally reduces inflammation at the affected tissue. Combining them addresses both the temperature and the inflammatory source in one measured volume, which is why prescribers use it selectively rather than routinely.
Can Ibumic-Plus be given during dengue or if a child is dehydrated?
No. Ibuprofen is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug and is avoided where dengue or any bleeding or platelet risk is suspected, and in a child who is dehydrated, vomiting or passing little urine. Tell the doctor about these situations before the medicine is given.
