Indications
- Acute musculoskeletal and post-traumatic pain and inflammation
- Renal colic and biliary colic
- Post-operative pain and inflammation
- Acute exacerbations of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis
- Acute painful conditions where the oral route is unsuitable or impractical
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to diclofenac, benzyl alcohol, aspirin or any other NSAID, including aspirin-sensitive asthma
- Active or recurrent peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, or a bleeding or coagulation disorder
- Severe hepatic, renal or cardiac failure, and pain management around coronary artery bypass surgery
- Neonates and infants, because the formulation contains benzyl alcohol; third trimester of pregnancy
Side effects
- Pain, induration or irritation at the injection site
- Nausea, epigastric discomfort or abdominal pain
- Headache, dizziness or drowsiness
- Skin rash, itching or other hypersensitivity reactions
- Uncommonly, gastrointestinal bleeding, raised liver enzymes, fluid retention or, rarely, injection-site abscess or tissue necrosis
