Rx Pain & InflammationIndications
- Rheumatic disorders including rheumatoid arthritis, polymyalgia rheumatica and other inflammatory arthropathies
- Allergic states such as drug hypersensitivity reactions, severe urticaria, allergic rhinitis and asthma exacerbations
- Inflammatory and bullous skin disorders requiring systemic corticosteroid therapy
- Connective tissue and autoimmune disorders under specialist supervision
- Other conditions in which an anti-inflammatory or immunosuppressive glucocorticoid is indicated
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to methylprednisolone or other corticosteroids
- Systemic fungal infection and untreated active infection
- Live or live-attenuated vaccines during immunosuppressive corticosteroid doses
- Caution and close supervision in diabetes, hypertension, peptic ulcer disease, osteoporosis, glaucoma, psychiatric illness, and in pregnancy or lactation
Side effects
- Fluid retention, weight gain and increased appetite
- Elevated blood glucose and blood pressure
- Dyspepsia and gastric irritation
- Insomnia, mood elevation or irritability
- With prolonged use: osteoporosis, muscle weakness, cushingoid features, delayed wound healing, cataract and adrenal suppression
