Indications

  • Acute musculoskeletal and post-traumatic pain and inflammation
  • Renal colic and biliary colic
  • Post-operative pain and inflammation
  • Acute exacerbations of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis and ankylosing spondylitis
  • Acute painful conditions where the oral route is unsuitable or impractical

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to diclofenac, benzyl alcohol, aspirin or any other NSAID, including aspirin-sensitive asthma
  • Active or recurrent peptic ulcer, gastrointestinal bleeding, or a bleeding or coagulation disorder
  • Severe hepatic, renal or cardiac failure, and pain management around coronary artery bypass surgery
  • Neonates and infants, because the formulation contains benzyl alcohol; third trimester of pregnancy

Side effects

  • Pain, induration or irritation at the injection site
  • Nausea, epigastric discomfort or abdominal pain
  • Headache, dizziness or drowsiness
  • Skin rash, itching or other hypersensitivity reactions
  • Uncommonly, gastrointestinal bleeding, raised liver enzymes, fluid retention or, rarely, injection-site abscess or tissue necrosis
