Pantoprazole 40 mg

Indications

  • Acute upper GI bleeding — peptic ulcer haemorrhage (IV bolus/infusion)
  • Severe erosive oesophagitis and GORD when oral route is unavailable
  • Stress ulcer prophylaxis in mechanically ventilated ICU patients
  • Zollinger–Ellison syndrome requiring high-dose IV acid suppression

Contraindications

  • Known hypersensitivity to Pantoprazole or substituted benzimidazoles
  • Co-administration with HIV medications where gastric pH affects absorption (e.g. rilpivirine)
  • Pregnancy and breast-feeding — use only when benefit outweighs risk

Side effects

  • Injection-site pain or thrombophlebitis with IV administration
  • Headache, diarrhoea, and abdominal discomfort
  • Hypomagnesaemia and Clostridium difficile infection risk with prolonged use
