Rx GastroenterologyIndications
- Duodenal ulcer and benign gastric ulcer
- Reflux oesophagitis and symptomatic gastro-oesophageal reflux disease
- Pathological hypersecretory states such as Zollinger-Ellison syndrome
- Acid-related dyspepsia and NSAID-associated ulceration, where an H2-receptor antagonist is considered appropriate
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to ranitidine or to any excipient of the tablet
- Patients with a history of acute porphyria
- Not to be used to self-treat persistent dyspepsia until gastric malignancy has been excluded
- Use only under medical advice in renal or hepatic impairment, and in pregnancy or breastfeeding
Side effects
- Headache, dizziness or tiredness
- Constipation, diarrhoea, nausea or abdominal discomfort
- Skin rash
- Uncommonly, reversible confusion in elderly or severely ill patients, and transient changes in liver enzymes
