Podomic 100 D/S contains Cefpodoxime 100 mg per 5 ml after reconstitution. Doctors prescribe cefpodoxime for bacterial infections such as acute otitis media, pharyngitis and tonsillitis, acute maxillary sinusitis, acute bacterial exacerbations of bronchitis and uncomplicated skin infections, when the organism is likely to be susceptible. The strength and the amount to give are decided by your physician on the child's weight.
Cefpodoxime is absorbed better when it is taken with a meal or feed, so it is usually given with food unless your doctor says otherwise. Antacids and acid-reducing medicines can lower how much of the drug is absorbed, so mention any that the child is taking. Shake the reconstituted bottle before each dose and follow the storage instruction on the label.
No. Colds, influenza and most coughs and sore throats are caused by viruses, and cefpodoxime has no effect on viruses. Using an antibiotic for a viral illness exposes the child to side effects with no benefit and contributes to resistance in the community. Podomic 100 D/S is a Schedule H1 medicine and should be given only when a doctor has prescribed it for a suspected or confirmed bacterial infection.
