Podomic 50 D/S provides Cefpodoxime 50 mg per 5 ml after reconstitution. It is prescribed for bacterial infections such as acute otitis media, pharyngitis and tonsillitis, acute maxillary sinusitis and uncomplicated skin infections, where the organism is expected to be susceptible to a third-generation oral cephalosporin. Your physician decides whether an antibiotic is needed at all and how much to give.
No u2014 not unless your doctor tells you to stop. Fever often settles well before the infection is cleared, and stopping there leaves behind the organisms least affected by the antibiotic. That is how a partly treated infection relapses and how resistant strains gain ground. Finish the course your physician prescribed, and go back to them if the child is not improving or gets worse.
Same molecule, different concentration. Podomic 50 D/S has Cefpodoxime 50 mg per 5 ml and Podomic 100 D/S has 100 mg per 5 ml. The lower concentration suits smaller children, where a weight-based dose measured from a stronger syrup would be an awkwardly tiny volume. Never swap one strength for the other on your own u2014 the volume to give changes, and only your physician should recalculate it.
