- Mixed aerobic–anaerobic infections of the abdomen and pelvis
- Pelvic inflammatory disease and other gynaecological infections
- Amoebic dysentery, giardiasis and trichomoniasis
- Dental, oral and post-operative wound infections with anaerobic involvement
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to fluoroquinolones or nitroimidazole derivatives
- Epilepsy or other CNS disorders, and any history of quinolone-associated tendon disorder
- Pregnancy, breast-feeding and patients below 18 years — consult your physician
Side effects
- Nausea, metallic taste and abdominal discomfort
- Dizziness, headache and, rarely, peripheral neuropathy on prolonged use
- Photosensitivity, and QT prolongation — caution alongside other QT-prolonging medicines

What is Oflomist-OZ Tablet used for?
Oflomist-OZ is prescribed for infections where both aerobic bacteria and anaerobes or protozoa are involved u2014 pelvic and gynaecological infections, intra-abdominal and post-operative infections, dental infections, and amoebic or giardial dysentery. It is a prescription-only medicine.
What is the difference between Oflomist-OZ and Oflomist M?
Both are ofloxacin combinations from Allomedix. Oflomist-OZ is an adult tablet pairing Ofloxacin 200 mg with Ornidazole 500 mg for mixed aerobicu2013anaerobic infections. Oflomist M is a 30 ml suspension with ofloxacin, metronidazole and simethicone, aimed at infective diarrhoea and patients who cannot swallow tablets.
Can alcohol be taken with Oflomist-OZ?
Unlike metronidazole, ornidazole is not generally associated with a disulfiram-like reaction to alcohol. Even so, alcohol is better avoided during any antibiotic course, and you should follow your physician's advice for your particular treatment.
