Indications
- Skin and soft tissue infections, including infected wounds and cellulitis caused by susceptible organisms
- Moderate to severe inflammatory acne vulgaris
- Rickettsial and tick-borne febrile illness, including scrub typhus, where a tetracycline is indicated
- Atypical respiratory infections due to Mycoplasma, Chlamydophila and Legionella species
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to doxycycline or any other tetracycline
- Children under 8 years — risk of permanent tooth discolouration and effects on bone growth
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding — consult your physician before use
Side effects
- Photosensitivity — sun protection is advised for the duration of treatment
- Oesophageal irritation or ulceration if the capsule is taken with too little water or while lying down
- Nausea, vomiting and loose stools; the Lactobacillus component is included to support gut flora
