Indications
- Respiratory tract infections — community-acquired pneumonia, bronchitis
- Sexually transmitted infections — chlamydia, gonorrhoea, syphilis (adjunct)
- Acne vulgaris (moderate to severe)
- Prevention of antibiotic-associated diarrhoea during doxycycline therapy
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to tetracyclines
- Children under 8 years — risk of permanent tooth discolouration and bone growth impairment
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding — consult physician
Side effects
- Photosensitivity — advise sun protection during treatment
- Oesophageal irritation — take with a full glass of water in an upright position
- Nausea and gastrointestinal discomfort (mitigated by the Lactic Acid Bacillus component)
