Indications
- Seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis in children
- Allergic rhinitis with coexisting mild persistent asthma, where both antihistamine and leukotriene cover are wanted
- Prophylaxis of asthma symptoms with an allergic trigger, as part of a physician-directed plan
- Chronic idiopathic urticaria and allergic skin itch attributable to the levocetirizine component
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to montelukast, levocetirizine, cetirizine, hydroxyzine or any piperazine derivative
- Severe renal impairment or end-stage renal disease, in which levocetirizine is unsuitable
- Children below the age for which the prescriber judges this strength appropriate, and any child with a history of neuropsychiatric reaction to montelukast
- Acute asthma attack – this syrup is not a reliever and must not replace a rescue inhaler
Side effects
- Drowsiness, tiredness or reduced attention in some children
- Headache, dry mouth or abdominal pain
- Reduced appetite, nausea or loose stools
- Neuropsychiatric effects reported with montelukast, including sleep disturbance, nightmares, irritability and mood change – stop and contact the physician if these appear

What bottle sizes does Montysolv LC Junior syrup come in?
The syrup is available as a 30 ml bottle and a 60 ml bottle. Both contain the same formulation – Montelukast 4 mg with Levocetirizine Dihydrochloride 2.5 mg per 5 ml – so the choice is simply about the length of the course prescribed.
