Indications
- Allergic rhinitis coexisting with mild persistent bronchial asthma
- Seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis inadequately controlled by an antihistamine alone
- Prophylaxis of asthma symptoms with an allergic component, including night-time cough and wheeze
- Exercise-induced bronchoconstriction in patients who also have allergic rhinitis
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to montelukast, levocetirizine, cetirizine or other piperazine derivatives
- Acute asthma attack or status asthmaticus — this tablet is not a rescue medicine
- Severe renal impairment (creatinine clearance below 10 mL/min)
- Children below 12 years for this adult-strength combination; pregnancy and breast-feeding to be assessed by the treating physician
Side effects
- Headache, somnolence, fatigue and dry mouth
- Abdominal pain, nausea and dyspepsia
- Neuropsychiatric events reported with montelukast — sleep disturbance, vivid dreams, agitation, anxiety or mood change; report these promptly
- Uncommon: rash and elevation of hepatic enzymes

What is Montymist-LC used for?
Montymist-LC contains Levocetirizine Hydrochloride IP 5 mg and Montelukast Sodium IP 10 mg. It is prescribed for allergic rhinitis that occurs alongside asthma, and for allergic rhinitis that an antihistamine alone has not controlled. It is a maintenance medicine, taken as directed by your physician.
Can Montymist-LC be used during an asthma attack?
No. Montymist-LC is a preventive tablet, not a reliever, and it does not open the airways quickly. During an acute attack use the rescue inhaler your physician has prescribed and seek medical help. Never stop or substitute your inhaler on your own.
Why does Montymist-LC contain two medicines?
Allergy runs down two pathways. Levocetirizine blocks histamine, which handles sneezing, itch and a runny nose. Montelukast blocks leukotrienes, which drive nasal blockage, mucus and airway narrowing. Together they cover symptoms that either molecule alone would leave behind.
