Indications

Primary dysmenorrhoea with prominent uterine cramping
Spasmodic pain arising from intestinal, biliary or renal smooth muscle
Pain associated with functional gastrointestinal spasm
Gynaecological pain in which an antispasmodic component is required

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to Drotaverine, Mefenamic Acid or other fenamates
Active peptic ulceration, gastrointestinal bleeding or inflammatory bowel disease
Severe hepatic, renal or cardiac impairment, including atrioventricular block
Third trimester of pregnancy

Side effects

Diarrhoea and abdominal discomfort, characteristic of fenamate NSAIDs
Nausea, dyspepsia or heartburn
Dizziness, headache or a transient fall in blood pressure
Rash and other hypersensitivity reactions (uncommon)

What is Drotimist-M tablet used for?

Drotimist-M combines Drotaverine 80 mg, a smooth-muscle relaxant, with Mefenamic Acid 250 mg, an anti-inflammatory analgesic. It is prescribed for the cramping pain of primary dysmenorrhoea and for colic arising from the intestinal, biliary or renal tract. Whether it suits your condition is a decision for your physician.

How is Drotimist-M different from a Dicyclomine and Mefenamic Acid tablet?

Both are antispasmodic-analgesic combinations, but the antispasmodic differs. Drotimist-M uses Drotaverine, a phosphodiesterase-4 inhibitor that relaxes smooth muscle without anticholinergic action, so dry mouth and blurred vision are not typical. Dicyclomine-based combinations such as Meftamist Spas work through an antimuscarinic route and are aimed more at abdominal and intestinal colic.

Is Drotimist-M available without a prescription?

No. Drotimist-M is a Schedule H medicine in India and is dispensed only against a valid prescription. The strength taken and how long it is continued must be exactly as directed by your physician.
