Rx RespiratoryIndications
- Chronic spontaneous (idiopathic) urticaria and recurrent hives
- Allergic skin reactions — angioedema, contact urticaria and insect-bite reactions
- Pruritus associated with atopic dermatitis and other allergic dermatoses
- Seasonal and perennial allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis
Contraindications
- Known hypersensitivity to cetirizine, hydroxyzine or other piperazine derivatives
- End-stage renal disease (creatinine clearance below 10 mL/min) and patients on haemodialysis
- Children below 6 years, for whom a paediatric liquid presentation is more appropriate than this tablet strength
- Pregnancy and breast-feeding — to be assessed by the treating physician
Side effects
- Mild somnolence and fatigue in a minority of patients
- Dry mouth, headache and pharyngitis
- Abdominal discomfort or nausea
- Uncommon: urinary retention and transient elevation of hepatic enzymes

What is Cetramist tablet used for?
Cetramist contains Cetirizine Hydrochloride IP 10 mg and is prescribed mainly for chronic urticaria and allergic skin reactions such as hives, angioedema and insect-bite swelling. It is also used for allergic rhinitis and allergic conjunctivitis. Take it as directed by your physician.
Does Cetramist make you sleepy?
Cetirizine is a second-generation antihistamine and is far less sedating than older options, but a minority of people do feel mild drowsiness. Until you know how Cetramist affects you, be careful about driving or operating machinery, and avoid combining it with alcohol or other sedatives.
How is Cetramist different from Levocetrimist?
Both are Allomedix antihistamines. Cetramist contains cetirizine hydrochloride and is positioned for chronic urticaria and allergic skin disease, while Levocetrimist contains levocetirizine, the active enantiomer of cetirizine, and is positioned for allergic rhinitis. Your physician will choose based on your symptoms.
