Allergic and inflammatory conditions of the airways, including acute exacerbations of bronchial asthma
Endocrine disorders requiring glucocorticoid therapy, as assessed by a physician

Contraindications

Known hypersensitivity to betamethasone or other corticosteroids
Systemic fungal infections and untreated active infections
Administration of live vaccines during high-dose corticosteroid therapy
Use only under close medical supervision in diabetes, hypertension, peptic ulcer disease, osteoporosis, glaucoma, and in pregnancy or lactation

Side effects

Increased appetite, weight gain and fluid retention
Rise in blood glucose and blood pressure
Gastric irritation and indigestion
Mood changes, restlessness and disturbed sleep
On prolonged use: skin thinning, easy bruising, osteoporosis, higher infection risk and adrenal suppression

What is Betamist tablet used for?

What is the composition of Betamist tablet, and is it a steroid?

Each Betamist tablet contains Betamethasone Sodium Phosphate IP 0.5 mg. The sodium phosphate is the water-soluble salt in which the drug is formulated, and betamethasone itself is a glucocorticoid – a corticosteroid hormone analogue used to suppress inflammation. It is not an anabolic steroid.

Can I stop taking Betamist on my own?

No. Stopping systemic corticosteroid therapy abruptly after a prolonged course can cause adrenal insufficiency and a rebound of the underlying condition. Your physician will advise how the dose should be reduced; do not change it yourself.
